Evansville, IN – The Evansville Police Department and the Evansville Department of Parks & Recreation will host a free public safety event on May 16 designed to connect residents with emergency response agencies from across the region.
According to officials, the event will allow community members to meet representatives from law enforcement, fire, EMS, and military organizations while exploring emergency vehicles, helicopters, displays, and public safety demonstrations.
The event will feature an Evansville Police Department K-9 demonstration, a children’s foot race with first responders, music, food trucks, family safety resources, and appearances from community entertainment groups including Southern Indiana Ghostbusters and Star Wars Indiana.
Officials said sponsorships connected to the event help fund park safety improvements, including security cameras, lighting, public outreach efforts, and other initiatives aimed at improving visitor safety at local parks.
Numerous agencies from Indiana and Kentucky are expected to participate, including the Indiana State Police, Louisville Metro Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Evansville Fire Department, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana National Guard, and United States Coast Guard.
The event will also include access to Wesselman Park’s playground and newly constructed restroom facilities.
Organizers said the gathering is intended to strengthen community engagement, provide educational opportunities, and highlight careers in public safety services.
