Evansville, INDIANA – The Evansville Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1800 block of Stinson Avenue early in the morning, rescuing several pets and helping nine people who were displaced from the home.
EFD was dispatched just before 6 a.m. after a resident reported that the home was on fire. A second caller also reported the residence was in flames.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the back of the house. Crews brought the fire under control in less than 30 minutes.
All occupants had escaped the home before firefighters arrived. Four adults and five children were displaced, and the American Red Cross was called to assist the family.
Firefighters also rescued two dogs, three ferrets, a snake and two cats from the home. One of the cats required vital medical aid but was successfully revived at the scene.
One civilian sustained injuries in the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. EFD urged residents to continue avoiding the area as crews remained on scene.
