Evansville, IN – The Evansville Fire Department took part in several community and public safety efforts, including a neighborhood revitalization project, a home fire safety campaign and a ceremony honoring the victims of September 11, 2001.
Members of the department’s recruit class and instructors joined the City of Evansville’s Block-by-Block neighborhood revitalization effort in the Glenwood/Culver neighborhood, working alongside city leaders and volunteers to clean up the area.
EFD inspectors also partnered with the American Red Cross during its Home Fire Campaign. Firefighters and volunteers went door-to-door to help ensure families had working smoke alarms and the tools needed to stay safe from home fires.
The department later joined public safety partners, the Evansville Fire Department Honor Guard, the Evansville Firefighters Pipe & Drum Corps and Mission BBQ for a ceremony remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
The department said 25 years later, the anniversary continues to serve as a reminder of the spirit of service displayed that day and the many ways people can serve their communities, from responding to emergencies to helping neighbors and working together to strengthen the community.
