Evansville, IN – The Evansville Fire Department in Indiana is conducting routine testing of fire hoses and ground ladders to ensure equipment remains safe and reliable during emergency responses.
According to the department, fire hoses are tested under National Fire Protection Association standards to confirm they can safely handle the pressures required on the fireground.
Officials said hoses can weaken over time due to heat, wear, and repeated use, even when no visible damage is present.
Ground ladders are also inspected and tested to verify structural integrity and safe operation.
Fire officials noted that the ladders play a critical role in rescues, ventilation operations, and emergency access situations.
To complete the evaluations, the department works with FireCatt, an independent certified testing company that documents results and confirms equipment meets required safety standards.
Officials said the testing process is an important part of ensuring firefighters have dependable equipment ready to respond when emergencies occur.
