Evansville, IN — The University of Southern Indiana (USI) will host a special presentation by Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry as part of its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Celebration Luncheon next month. The event, which will be open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on January 20, 2024, in USI’s Carter Hall.
The luncheon will feature Mayor Terry’s address titled “A Blueprint for the Future,” where she is expected to discuss the critical importance of community investment in creating lasting change. According to a USI news release, Terry will focus on how individuals and communities can work together to achieve breakthroughs in freedom and justice for all.
Terry, a Democrat, was elected mayor of Evansville in 2023, defeating Republican candidate Natalie Rascher and Libertarian Michael Daugherty. She has a long history of community involvement, previously serving as the deputy director of the Carver Community Organization and as the executive director of the Children’s Museum of Evansville (cMoe). Her leadership in these roles has given her a strong foundation in community-building, a theme likely to resonate throughout her presentation.
The luncheon, which is part of the university’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, offers a chance for attendees to engage with the themes of equality, justice, and community development—central issues in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision for America.
Tickets for the event are priced at $35 for USI employees and students, and $45 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased through the USI Multicultural Center’s website. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in this reflective and forward-thinking celebration of Dr. King’s legacy.
