EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Martin Miniard, the Evansville man charged with murder, has formally requested that his trial be moved out of Vanderburgh County. Court records show that Miniard filed the motion this past Monday.
The request comes after a judge recently rejected a plea agreement that Miniard reached in December. The plea deal would have reduced the charges from murder to reckless homicide. Miniard is accused of fatally shooting 37-year-old Joshua Seymour on East Louisiana Street in July of 2024.
Miniard, who faces serious charges in connection to Seymour’s death, will return to court on Friday morning for further proceedings. The request for a change of venue is expected to be addressed at that time.
The case has attracted significant attention, and the decision to seek a trial outside Vanderburgh County may be an attempt to ensure a fair trial by avoiding potential bias from local publicity.
