Carmel, Indiana – In order to raise awareness about invasive species, Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) will run an Invasive for Native Tree Swap program throughout the month of April. CCPR will provide you with one native tree per family as compensation if you remove one or more invasive species from your land.
You can receive a free native tree by taking a picture of the invasive(s) you’ve removed and sending it to naturalresources@carmelclayparks.com.
The environment is improved and wildlife is given food and habitat by removing invasive species from parks, neighborhoods, and other natural places and replacing them with native plants. Non-native species, especially those that were accidentally introduced rather than on purpose, are considered invasive. When it comes to resources like water, sunlight, and soil nutrients, invasive species outcompete native plants. Ecology, public health, and economics are all harmed by the eradication of native species.
