Indianapolis, Indiana – Earlier this month, a 15-year-old girl was shot, and the Indianapolis Police Department has arrested two teenage boys in connection with the shooting.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a shooting that occurred on the evening of January 5 at a residence located in the 8000 block of Wysong Drive. On the east side of Indianapolis, that is a residential neighborhood located just to the north of Interstate 70 close to the intersection of 30th Street and Franklin Road.
When officers entered the residence, they discovered the injured girl inside. She was in a healthy condition when she was taken to the hospital.
“Aggravated assault detectives arrived on the scene. Within minutes, detectives were able to identify two juvenile males as the suspects in this case,” IMPD said in a statement Monday.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), investigators believe the two suspects, ages 17 and 15, were “possibly playing with a firearm” right before the shooting.
The two boys were located by the police on Sunday afternoon, and without any further incident, they were taken into custody.
According to the information provided by IMPD, a 17-year-old boy was taken into custody on charges of aggravated battery, domestic battery, criminal recklessness, and dangerous possession of a firearm. The juvenile, aged 15, was taken into custody for being in unlawful possession of a firearm.
Due to the fact that the suspects were juveniles, the police did not release their names.
The case will be reviewed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, which will then decide whether or not to file formal charges.
Anyone who may have information was asked to get in touch with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS.
