Indianapolis, Indiana — According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, on Thursday morning drivers were asked to avoid the area of 34th Street and Arlington Avenue while officers searched for someone who fired shots during a police investigation.
At around 3 a.m., IMPD tweeted that officers were responding to a “critical incident” in the 6000 block of Massachusetts Avenue. That’s where Mass Ave. intersects with Arlington Avenue and 34th Street on the city’s east side.
Just after 4 a.m., IMPD sent another tweet stating that someone fired shots while officers were on the scene.
“The suspect is contained within a perimeter,” IMPD said. “This is an active scene with roads closed down near 34th/Arlington/Massachusetts.”
According to IMPD, it expects the area to be shut down “for an extended time.”
Officers at the scene did not say what led to the original police response and did not share any information on the suspect.
