Evansville, IN – The Evansville Fire Department will honor one of its own Saturday as retired Captain Jimmy Mastison is among 288 fallen International Association of Fire Fighters members whose names will be added to the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial in Colorado Springs.
Mastison began his career with the Evansville Fire Department in 1984 and retired in 2019 after 35 years of service. A second-generation member of the department, he served the Evansville community as captain of E14.
Shortly after retiring, Mastison was diagnosed with occupational cancer. He battled the disease until his death in 2025.
Mastison will become the 18th member of the Evansville Fire Department and IAFF Local 357 to be honored on the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial.
The memorial ceremony is held annually to honor firefighters who died after serving their communities. This year, 288 fallen IAFF members will have their names added to the Memorial Wall as their families, friends and fellow firefighters gather to remember their service and sacrifice.
The Evansville Fire Department encouraged members of the community to watch the ceremony and join firefighters in remembering Mastison and the other fallen members being honored.
The IAFF said the ceremony will take place Saturday, Sept. 19, with the livestream scheduled for noon Eastern time and 10 a.m. Mountain time from Colorado Springs.
The livestream will be available through the IAFF’s official YouTube channel.
For Evansville firefighters and the local union, Mastison’s addition to the Memorial Wall marks another lasting tribute to a longtime member who dedicated decades to the department and the community.
