Evansville, IN – Residents in the Boeke and Pollock areas of Evansville are being urged to remain alert after multiple reports of a coyote sighted in the area.
Evansville Animal Care & Control shared information from Nuisance Wildlife Control, which said several reports had been received about the coyote.
Officials said coyotes are highly mobile and can travel considerable distances, meaning the animal could potentially be seen in surrounding neighborhoods and other parts of the community.
At this time, the coyote does not appear to be sick or injured. However, its presence in a populated residential area has raised concerns among residents.
Nuisance Wildlife Control said it has been in contact with city officials and will continue working with them to investigate and monitor the reported sightings.
Officials will determine whether further action is necessary, including potentially capturing and relocating the coyote away from populated areas if warranted.
Residents are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings and supervise small pets while outdoors. Officials also warned residents not to approach or feed the animal.
