Evansville, IN – K9 Doc, a longtime member of the Evansville Police Department’s K9 Team, has died peacefully at home surrounded by the family who loved him.
Doc began his career in 2016 when he was partnered with Officer John Montgomery. During his years with the department, he played an important role in numerous investigations and earned several United States Police Canine Association awards.
According to the Evansville Police Department, Doc made 33 apprehensions and 100 surrenders during his career. He also helped officers locate approximately 100 pounds of marijuana, 42 pounds of methamphetamine and more than $100,000 in currency.
After retiring from active duty, Doc continued living with Montgomery and his family. The department said he enjoyed trips to Lake Barkley, spending time at home and picking up his siblings from the school car line.
Although his working days were over, Doc remained an important part of the family and community that had grown to know him.
The Evansville Police Department remembered Doc for his service, loyalty and the impact he made throughout his career.
“Run free, Doc. Thank you for your service, your loyalty, and all the lives you touched along the way,” the department said.
