Evansville, IN – The Evansville Police Department will join law enforcement agencies across Indiana later this month for the annual “Cop on a Rooftop” fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics Indiana.
According to the department, officers from Evansville Police and deputies with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the event on May 15 at the Dunkin’ location at 850 North Green River Road from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Officials said community members will have the opportunity to donate money, meet local first responders, and learn more about Special Olympics Indiana while officers and deputies are stationed around and on top of the store.
The fundraiser supports approximately 20,000 athletes across Indiana who participate in Special Olympics programs and competitions at no cost.
Officer Taylor Merriss said the event provides an opportunity for first responders to connect with the community while supporting local athletes and promoting inclusion, teamwork, and confidence-building opportunities.
According to organizers, individuals who donate during the event will receive promotional Dunkin’ coupons, including free donuts and coffee for larger donations.
Officials said “Cop on a Rooftop” events have raised more than $125,000 for Special Olympics Indiana to date.
