Evansville, IN — A 30-year-old Evansville man was arrested on Tuesday evening after allegedly exposing himself to bystanders while under the influence of methamphetamine.
According to the Evansville Police Department, officers responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. at the Banterra Bank, located at Main and 3rd Streets, after receiving reports of a man acting erratically inside the bank’s lobby. Witnesses said the man was kicking the bank’s door and dancing around while exposing himself.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect, identified as Jarrod Roberts, inside the glass entryway of the bank. The door appeared to be jammed, but police were able to gain access and take Roberts into custody without further incident.
A witness on the scene told authorities that Roberts had been seen exposing himself to pedestrians passing by the building, including children, elderly women, and others.
When questioned by police, Roberts allegedly admitted to his actions, telling officers that he “goes into all the businesses to speak with females about having sex with him.” He further confessed to dancing with his genitals exposed while people walked by the building.
Roberts also acknowledged that he was under the influence of methamphetamine during the incident. He informed officers that he had purchased meth the day before and had smoked the drug multiple times.
While being held in a jail cell, Roberts reportedly continued to expose himself and make sexually inappropriate gestures toward officers and jail staff.
In addition to his charges from Tuesday’s incident, Roberts was found to have an open case involving similar charges in the same area dating back to April 21. Due to the repeat nature of his behavior, the charge stemming from the May 1 incident was upgraded to a felony.
Roberts was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of public nudity, indecent exposure, and public intoxication. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
This arrest highlights the ongoing challenges posed by substance abuse in Evansville, with many individuals reportedly engaging in dangerous and inappropriate behavior while under the influence of methamphetamine.
