Evansville, Ind. — A man is facing multiple felony charges after a violent altercation in Evansville on Wednesday morning. Jaevon Hamilton, 30, was arrested following an assault on a woman and a subsequent attempt to disarm a police officer.
According to the Evansville Police Department, officers responded to a call around 8:30 a.m. regarding a disturbance in the area of Garvin Street and Madison Avenue. Upon arriving, they found the victim, a woman with injuries, at the scene. Authorities later determined that Hamilton had been in a previous relationship with the woman.
Investigators revealed that Hamilton used the victim’s phone to track her location, leading him to a residence on Oakley Street, where she had been staying with a friend. Police say Hamilton forced his way into the home, kicked in the back door, and assaulted the woman. He allegedly punched her, causing her to fall to the ground. Despite her injuries, the victim declined medical treatment at the scene, but informed officers that Hamilton was nearby at a different location.
Following the lead, police tracked Hamilton to a home on Madison Avenue. Initially, he refused to come out, but eventually agreed to speak with officers. As they attempted to detain him, Hamilton allegedly pushed one of the officers and attempted to grab their firearm. Despite his resistance, officers were able to de-escalate the situation, preventing any injuries to law enforcement or Hamilton himself.
Hamilton was taken into custody and charged with several felonies, including disarming a law enforcement officer, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and residential entry. He is currently being held without bond at the Vanderburgh County Jail. Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
