Evansville, Ind. — The Evansville Police Department (EPD) ramped up its efforts to combat speeding on the Lloyd Expressway Monday with a special speed enforcement detail. The operation, which lasted four hours, was conducted by the department’s Traffic and Crime Prevention Units in response to growing concerns from local residents about speeding on the busy stretch of road.
During the operation, EPD officers stopped a total of 77 vehicles, issuing 57 citations for speeding violations. In addition, 33 drivers received warnings, while one individual was arrested. The enforcement effort was designed to increase awareness of the dangers of speeding and improve traffic safety in the area.
EPD officials explained that the initiative was prompted by numerous complaints from community members, who expressed concerns about the high speeds on the Lloyd Expressway. Officers targeted areas with a high volume of traffic and known problem spots, focusing on both enforcement and education.
“This detail is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety,” said a spokesperson for the EPD. “We understand the frustrations of the community, and we hope this operation sends a clear message that speeding will not be tolerated.”
The Lloyd Expressway, a major east-west route through Evansville, has seen an increase in traffic in recent years, which some believe has contributed to the speeding problem. In addition to conducting enforcement, the EPD emphasized the importance of community cooperation in addressing the issue.
While Monday’s detail was a success, EPD officials have indicated that additional enforcement operations may be conducted in the future as part of their ongoing efforts to ensure safety on Evansville’s roadways. The department also encouraged residents to continue reporting speeding concerns to help guide future enforcement efforts.
As the city continues to grow, maintaining safe roads for all motorists remains a top priority for the Evansville Police Department.
