EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning in Vanderburgh County when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a CSX train near Duesner Road and Zimmerman Road. Authorities responded to the scene shortly before 6:30 AM following reports of the collision.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, the individual was walking along the train tracks when the train, unable to stop in time, collided with the pedestrian. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators noted that the area had been experiencing significant flooding, which complicated efforts to reach the site of the incident. Deputies and medical personnel initially faced challenges navigating the flooded terrain. However, with the assistance of the Perry Township Fire Department, who used boats to access the location, authorities were able to complete the investigation.
The identity of the deceased individual has not yet been released, and authorities are working to notify next of kin.
