Princeton, Ind. – The North Gibson School Corporation announced Friday closure after a powerful tornado caused significant damage across Princeton, including Princeton Community High School. The district confirmed that while emergency crews are currently assessing the affected areas, the safety and well-being of students and staff remain their top priority.
According to district officials, the decision to close was made after the storm severely impacted the community. “At this time, emergency crews are actively working to assess and secure affected areas throughout the city, and we want to ensure everyone has the necessary time and support to recover and remain safe,” the district said in a statement.
Princeton Community High School, which sustained some of the damage, will not hold in-person classes on Friday. However, to ensure students do not fall behind, the district has announced that Friday’s lessons will be made up through virtual learning. Details on how to access these lessons will be provided when students return to school next week.
The school corporation expressed sympathy for the families affected by the storm. “Our thoughts remain with those families who sustained damage to their homes during the storm,” officials stated. They also encouraged students to take care of themselves and their loved ones, and reminded families to reach out if they need assistance during this challenging time.
As of now, recovery efforts are ongoing, with emergency teams working throughout the city to secure damaged areas and offer aid to those in need.
The North Gibson School Corporation has yet to release a timeline for when in-person classes will resume, though officials are working to ensure that students and staff can return to a safe learning environment as soon as possible.
