VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — A suspect was taken into custody by Vanderburgh County authorities after a utility vehicle was stolen from an Evansville hospital Monday morning. Deputies responded to a report of an orange Kubota UTV being stolen by an individual who had recently received medical treatment at the facility.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), the suspect was located at a campground near Burdette Park, where the stolen vehicle was found next to the suspect’s camper. However, the individual refused to comply with deputies’ orders to surrender.
In response, a VCSO K9 unit was deployed to assist in apprehending the suspect. The K9 successfully subdued the individual, who was subsequently taken into custody. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was transported back to the hospital to receive treatment for intoxication and minor injuries sustained during the encounter with the K9.
The suspect is now facing charges of auto theft and resisting law enforcement. Authorities have not disclosed further details at this time, but they continue to investigate the incident.
