WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. — A 20-year-old man was arrested Sunday in Warrick County after authorities discovered multiple concerning issues involving three juveniles. Isaiah Thaxton, of Warrick County, was taken into custody and charged with three counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
The investigation began when deputies responded to a report of several individuals walking down the Boonville Highway near SR 62 W, asking for gas. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Thaxton, who was accompanied by three children: a 12-year-old, an 11-year-old, and a 13-year-old. The group claimed their vehicle had run out of gas and directed deputies to a red car parked on the side of the road.
As deputies spoke with the group, they noted the strong smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A search of the car revealed a half-empty bottle of whiskey. Further investigation into the situation revealed that two of the children were reported as missing or runaways from Vanderburgh County.
During the questioning, one of the children admitted to carrying a gun in his waistband, prompting officers to recall a shots-fired incident that occurred the previous day in Chandler, Indiana. The child confessed to firing the gun during that incident. Additionally, authorities found a bag of marijuana hidden in the child’s headband.
As a result of the investigation, two of the juveniles were taken to a juvenile detention center, while the third was placed in a youth home. Thaxton was arrested and transported to the Warrick County Jail, where he is being held on bond.
The case has raised concerns regarding the safety and well-being of the minors involved, as well as the actions of Thaxton in allegedly contributing to their delinquency. The investigation remains ongoing.
