EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A tragic accident claimed the life of a pedestrian Saturday evening after being struck by a truck near the intersection of Diamond Avenue and Stringtown Road.
According to the Evansville Police Department, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. when two pedestrians attempted to cross Diamond Avenue. As the pair stepped onto the roadway, a truck traveling westbound struck one of the pedestrians.
Officials said the second pedestrian, seeing the oncoming truck, stopped before crossing, while the victim who was hit attempted to get out of the truck’s path. Despite life-saving efforts performed by responding officers, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified by the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office as 66-year-old JTanya Kuria.
Following the accident, the intersection was temporarily closed for approximately an hour to allow for accident reconstruction. Authorities stated that the driver of the truck cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by Evansville Police.
