Evansville, IN – A 20-year-old Evansville man was arrested late Wednesday night after deputies say he left the scene of a crash while intoxicated.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 41 and Highway 57. Authorities were called to the scene, where they found evidence of a crash, including a missing bumper. Deputies followed the trail to a nearby McDonald’s, where they discovered a vehicle that appeared to match the one involved in the collision.
Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies spoke with the driver, identified as Jesus Gonzalez. He reportedly denied any involvement in the crash, despite the fact that the missing bumper from his vehicle was found at the scene. According to authorities, Gonzalez also claimed he had not been drinking, though his actions suggested otherwise.
Deputies attempted to administer field sobriety tests but were unable to complete them due to Gonzalez’s severe intoxication. A subsequent breathalyzer test revealed his blood alcohol content (BAC) to be 0.208 – more than two and a half times the legal limit of 0.08.
As a result of the incident, Gonzalez now faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and they are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
This latest arrest highlights the dangers of driving under the influence, as law enforcement continues to crack down on impaired drivers to ensure public safety.
