Indianapolis, Indiana – To be ready for the eventual connection with the new I-69 link, there will be significant closures beginning Friday night on I-465 on the southwest side.
Between I-65 and I-70, the eastbound lanes of I-465 will be closed so that a second travel lane may be added in each direction to accommodate more cars.
This summer, there will be two closures.
On the eastbound lanes between I-70 and I-65, the first set of construction will begin. I-70 eastbound to I-65 southbound at the South Split will be the designated diversion for I-465 eastbound traffic.
During the closure, the following ramps will also be closed:
• I-70 eastbound and westbound to I-465 westbound
• Major shutdowns start Friday night on I-465 on the southwest side to prepare for the eventual connection with the new I-69 link.
• Kentucky Avenue/State Road 67 to and from I-465 eastbound
• Mann Road to I-465 eastbound
• Harding Street/State Road 37 to and from I-465 eastbound
• East Street/U.S. 31 to and from I-465 eastbound
If everything goes according to plan, construction should last until June 21.
The second phase of construction on the westbound lanes will begin in July. The same detour that drivers used when the eastbound lanes were closed will be used but in reverse. I-65 will take travelers north, and I-70 will take them west. The westbound lane will be closed from July 7 to July 29.
During the closure, the following ramps will be closed:
• I-65 northbound and southbound to I-465 westbound
• East Street/U.S. 31 to and from I-465 westbound
• Harding Street/State Road 37 to and from I-465 westbound
• Kentucky Avenue/State Road 67 to and from I-465 westbound
