Indiana cornerback Jaylin Williams had a blood alcohol content of .126 immediately following his Feb. 6 arrest on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The report completed by the arresting officer, a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy, states that Williams disregarded a lighted signal. He was also speeding, making unsafe lane movements, and driving left of center, according to the affidavit.
The officer lists the intersection of 10th and Walnut streets as the approximate location where Williams was observed driving, at around 12:30 a.m. Jail records indicate Williams was later arrested near the intersection of 17th and Dunn streets.
Prior to his arrest, Williams submitted to a field sobriety test, according to the affidavit. The officer reported Williams passed the “one leg stand” test, but he failed the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, or “HGN,” as well as the walk-and-turn test. Williams then submitted to a preliminary breath test and was found to have a BAC of .115, according to the affidavit.
Williams was later administered a chemical test at the Monroe County Jail, according to the affidavit, which revealed a BAC of .126.
By testing below the .15 BAC threshold, Williams avoided a Class A misdemeanor with the OWI offense, specifically. Class A misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine. An OWI with a BAC between .08 and .15 is a Class C misdemeanor when it’s a person’s first offense. Class C misdemeanors can result in up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
However, Williams was also charged with OWI endangerment, which is a Class A misdemeanor. Those charges relate to his unsafe driving, as reported by the officer.
Williams posted a $1,000 surety, $500 cash bond and was released the morning of Feb. 6. He waived his initial hearing. A pretrial conference has been set for April 6.
IU released a statement responding to the arrest, saying “Indiana University Athletics and the IU football program are aware of the arrest of Jaylin Williams. IU Athletics will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal process, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.”

Indiana cornerback Jaylin Williams was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangerment early Saturday morning.
According to jail records, Williams was arrested near the intersection of 17th and Dunn Street, which is just a few hundred feet from Memorial Stadium. He was booked into Monroe County Jail at 1:33 a.m. on charges of OWI with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 and less than .15, as well as OWI endangerment, which are both misdemeanors.
Williams is 20 years old. He will turn 21 on Feb. 26.
His bond was set at $1,000, according to jail records. He posted bond and was released at 7:04 a.m. Saturday.
Williams was a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2020. The junior from Memphis, Tenn., tied for the team lead with four interceptions. He also collected 30 tackles.
