Evansville, IN – An Evansville man is in custody after allegedly breaking into an apartment early Sunday morning and lying in bed next to one of the residents. Authorities report that 49-year-old Jeremy Holtzclaw was arrested after the incident, which took place in the 100 block of South Green River Road.
According to police, Holtzclaw kicked in the door of the apartment before entering and lying down beside one of the victims. The victim, who was asleep at the time, woke up to find Holtzclaw next to him and immediately yelled at him to leave the room. The second victim, who was also inside the apartment, discovered Holtzclaw at the foot of the bed and physically dragged him out to the balcony.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Holtzclaw on the balcony with a glass smoking pipe in his hand. Holtzclaw reportedly told police that he had been using K2, a synthetic marijuana, prior to the incident. He claimed that he was attempting to return to his own room but had been disoriented due to severe anxiety, which he said caused his heart to “flutter.” He admitted to not remembering kicking in the door and only recalled one of the victims telling him to leave the room.
Holtzclaw was arrested on charges of residential entry, public intoxication, and possession of paraphernalia. He was subsequently booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable and often dangerous behavior associated with synthetic drugs, as well as the importance of safety and vigilance in residential areas.
