Bloomington, Indiana – A Bloomington woman died Saturday night after being stabbed in her home in the 4300 block of South Leonard Springs Road.
The Bloomington woman, identified as Dawn Warren, was allegedly stabbed by her son Matthew Warren, 29. Her husband, Louis Warren, was also allegedly stabbed by the son. His wound was not life threatening, according to a report from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Louis and Dawn’s son, Matthew, was jailed and charged without bond on preliminary murder and battery charges.
Matthew had been living with his parents since the fall of 2019 after he left a psychiatric hospital where he was being treated for schizophrenia.
Louis Warren was watching television at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening when he heard his wife scream, according to a report by Sgt. Nathan Peach of Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Louis said he found Dawn on the floor in the dining room with a stab wound in her chest while Matthew was standing nearby with a knife in his hand.
The police report stated that Louis held Matthew back with a chair while insisting he put the knife down, to which Matthew complied. Matthew then picked the knife up again and attacked Louis, according to the report. Louis took the knife from Matthew and told him to sit on a couch in another room while Louis called 911 and performed CPR on Dawn until first responders arrived at the scene.
Dawn died during surgery hours later.
There was no trigger to Matthew’s attack and no previous indication that he may act violently. Matthew refused to talk to police about the attack, Peach said.
