Indianapolis, Indiana – While many individuals may spend this day in love and romance, some may experience heartbreak. Risen Saint Vincent Dr. Thomas Schleeter, a cardiologist, joined Daybreak on Tuesday to talk about the indicators of broken heart syndrome.
Broken heart syndrome is a condition of the heart that is frequently brought on by a traumatic experience or strong emotions. It closely resembles a heart attack but is not brought on by an arterial blockage.
“It’s a syndrome characterized by chest pain, trouble, breathing, feeling poorly, maybe even passing out. I think it’s also important to realize it’s not always seen with a traumatic event. It certainly can be with something very emotional, but we do see this syndrome outside of emotional events as well,” Schleeter said.
Please seek assistance as soon as possible if you believe you may be suffering from broken heart syndrome because it can be fatal.
