Evansville, IN – The Evansville Police Department reported that two individuals were arrested following a joint narcotics investigation conducted by the Evansville Vanderburgh County Joint Task Force on March 10 in the area of Madison Avenue and Southeast Second Street.
According to investigators, detectives attempted to stop a vehicle during the operation, but the driver fled.
The vehicle was later located nearby, and two individuals, Chelsea M. Brown, 31, and Robert J. Harwell, 28, were seen running from the area.
After they were detained, additional officers located the driver, William C. Hamer, 52.
Detectives said a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of an AR-15 rifle, more than 200 rounds of ammunition, about three grams of suspected fentanyl, more than 30 grams of methamphetamine, suspected marijuana, and pills identified as alprazolam and gabapentin.
Authorities also reported that Harwell removed bags from the vehicle containing a 9 mm handgun, more than 100 rounds of ammunition, approximately 2.5 ounces of suspected marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Another 9 mm handgun was later located nearby with the assistance of an EPD K9.
Harwell was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and dealing marijuana.
Hamer was arrested on multiple charges, including dealing methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, dealing a narcotic drug, dealing marijuana, habitual traffic violator—lifetime, and two counts of resisting law enforcement.
Brown was released at the scene, police said.
