Evansville, Ind. – On Friday, May 16, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will host the 11th Annual “Cop on a Rooftop” event at the Dunkin’ Donuts located at 848 South Green River Road in Evansville. The event will run from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. and aims to raise awareness and collect donations for Special Olympics Indiana.
In a collaborative effort, deputies from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will be joined by officers from the Evansville Police Department and representatives from the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office. Together, they’ll be stationed both on the rooftop and in the parking lot of the Dunkin’ Donuts location, engaging with community members and encouraging support for local Special Olympics athletes.
Now in its 11th year, “Cop on a Rooftop” has become a signature fundraiser tied to the Law Enforcement Torch Run initiative, which supports Special Olympics programs across the country. The event offers a unique and visible way for law enforcement to show their commitment to inclusion and community engagement.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the annual event is “dedicated to celebrating inclusion, determination, and community spirit,” and serves as a meaningful way for residents to connect with local law enforcement while supporting a worthy cause.
Attendees are encouraged to stop by, make a donation, and show their support. Contributions will help provide year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities through Special Olympics Indiana.
For more information about the event or to donate, community members can visit the Dunkin’ Donuts location during event hours or follow updates from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office on social media.
