Evansville, IN – Two men were arrested on drug-related charges after leading police on a brief chase in Evansville Tuesday.
According to the Evansville Police Department (EPD), officers were conducting a routine patrol when they observed an SUV with an expired registration. When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle appeared to slow down as if it was going to pull over, but then sped off, prompting a pursuit.
The chase ended shortly after the SUV stopped. Max Calvert, the passenger, exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was quickly apprehended by officers, who discovered he had an active warrant for his arrest out of Warrick County.
The driver of the vehicle, Jay Oldfield, reportedly told police that Calvert had urged him not to stop, causing him to panic. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found marijuana on Oldfield and multiple baggies containing methamphetamine and cocaine.
Oldfield was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of drug possession and resisting law enforcement. Calvert was also taken into custody, facing charges related to his outstanding warrant and resisting arrest.
Both men remain in custody as the investigation continues.
