Indianapolis, Indiana – The suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting of Indianapolis visitor on July 25 on Georgia Street was arrested and now faces multiple charges, police say.
According to authorities, patrol officers were in the area when they heard gunshot and located the victim. The located the victim and approached him to help him when he informed that he is visiting Indianapolis for his son’s basketball tournament. Luckily, the victim was not seriously injured.
Just when the officers were standing with the victim, they saw the possible suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Carnell Williams who was entering his vehicle close by. When officers approached him, he slammed the door and was arrested. Authorities later found a gun in the vehicle.
When questioned by police, the suspect said he was downtown Indianapolis with his girlfriend for a dinner. According to him, he was also in the area when someone fired shots, but he was not able to see or locate the shooter.
Police released the official statement regarding the suspect:
“Mr. Williams confirmed that the firearm was his and he brought it with him when he moved to Indiana. Detective Higgins asked Mr. Williams how many rounds are with the gun and he stated none. Detective Higgins then asked him how many he had when he came downtown and he stated one. Detective Higgins then asked what happened to the one bullet he had and he stated it was already gone when he got downtown,” the affidavit read.
However, while the deputies were investigating the case, they were able to acquire video surveillance footage from a local store which revealed that a man matching Williams’ description, came from around the corner and fired shot to the crowd down the street. It was later confirmed that the bullet hit the victim.
Williams was charged by prosecutors with two counts of criminal recklessness and one count of carrying a handgun without a license.
