Evansville, IN – Emergency crews in Vanderburgh County were kept busy Sunday morning as strong winds caused minor damage in various parts of the area. Wind gusts of up to 37 miles per hour were recorded, with the northern parts of the county feeling the brunt of the storm.
The Evansville and Scott Township Fire Departments responded to several reports of fallen power lines, with crews working quickly to ensure safety in the affected areas. In addition, several trees were knocked down in the Darmstadt area, temporarily closing roads and creating traffic disruptions.
One resident in Darmstadt, Dan Livingston, was seen cleaning up debris in front of his home. Livingston described the event as a sudden and unexpected burst of wind. “I was in the house and I heard it. I heard it fall,” he said. “I heard the wind picking up. I don’t know if we had a little tornado there or what, but it got really windy there for a minute. I don’t know what happened.”
The strong winds were part of a larger weather system that triggered a wind advisory across the Tri-State area. The advisory was lifted by 2 p.m. on Sunday, but not before causing disruptions in the region.
No serious injuries were reported, but the cleanup efforts continued throughout the afternoon as residents and emergency personnel worked to clear fallen trees and restore power lines.
