Indianapolis, Indiana – White River State Park is hosting a race today. Nearly 100 runners took part in the PJ 5K Run on Sunday.
These runners accomplished much more than just finishing a 5K; they also contributed to the cause of funding and raising awareness for sleep problems.
The CDC also reports that one in three adults do not typically get enough sleep, and the Sleep Foundation estimates that 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from persistent sleep disorders.
Because of this, the race’s organizers claim that it is crucial to support people who suffer from sleep problems including narcolepsy and sleep apnea.
One of the participants in Sunday’s event, Nancy Collop, said, “I’ve been doing sleep medicine for longer than I want to admit… but you can see how things have expanded in the field.” “More individuals are curious about how they sleep. Sleep disturbances are widespread. Research is crucial to helping individuals sleep better and lead better lives because they tend to be chronic.
The event serves as a reminder of the significance of both increasing awareness of sleep disorders and the significance of getting enough sleep in general.
Another runner, Julie Dahl, stated that “people don’t understand the importance that adults need seven to eight hours of sleep [every night], especially in America,” when discussing sleep issues or even just sleep in general. “We don’t consider that. We are using both ends of the candles. The significance of getting those crucial hours of sleep for your energy, memory, and focus is not well understood by the general public. Your mood is balanced and under control when you sleep. It’s quite significant.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation and the Sleep Research Society Foundation will receive donations from Sunday’s race.
