Bloomington, Indiana – Indiana’s Bloomington – The Earth Day Community Challenge for Bloomington citizens will begin on April 1, according to the Department of Economic and Sustainable Development of the City of Bloomington.
A bingo board with sustainability action items inspired by Zero In Bloomington (zeroinbloomington.com), the City’s climate action platform, will be part of this three-week initiative. Participants can earn points and enter to win prizes by performing tasks and monitoring them on Zero In Bloomington. Through the Sustainable Bloomington Facebook page (facebook.com/sustainbtown), the City will provide advice for carrying out actions each day and highlight community resources that might assist locals in incorporating these acts into their daily lives.
The project is a crucial milestone in Bloomington’s quest for climate resiliency and sustainable leadership to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. To participate, participants must sign up on the Zero In Bloomington website. Visit the platform’s website at bloomington.in.gov/sustainability/zeroin to learn more.
At the City’s inaugural Cycle to Earth Day celebration (https://bton.in/7SHbF) at Switchyard Park on April 22, the competition will come to an end with the awarding of a grand prize. In addition to food trucks, entertainment, and an EV ride-and-drive event, the family-friendly event will offer attendees the chance to test drive electric automobiles. In an attempt to support sustainable mobility options in the Bloomington community, Go Bloomington, the City’s alternative transportation platform, is a co-sponsor of the Earth Day event (gobloomington.org).
The event will feature partners of the platform who will provide the chance to test-ride e-bikes and learn more about Bloomington’s initiatives to promote alternative modes of transportation. Also, Go Bloomington will raffle off an e-bike and a Little 500 bike to registered participants. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
