Kokomo, Indiana – Mayor Tyler Moore announced new safety plan for Kokomo Beach following the shooting that took place on Tuesday when a teenager was shot.
According to the Mayor, the new safety will start this Friday. In the announcement the mayor said two police officers will be standing at the aquatic center and two will be at Foster Park nearby every day Kokomo Beach is open. They will either be from the Howard County Sheriff’s Office or Kokomo Police Department. The safety plan will be in force in future years too.
The mayor added that new security cameras will monitor the area 24 hours a day and as additional measure the officers in charge will be checking bags.
This announcement came less than a day after a teenager was shot on Tuesday evening. Officers didn’t release the identity of the 16-year-old due to his age. Police officers are investigating the incident and what led to the shooting. Witnesses said there was an argument inside the aquatic center between the teenager and other people. They left the aquatic center before the shooting.
Police arrested another teenager, 17-year-old, who allegedly shot the victim. He was taken to a juvenile detention center and preliminarily charged with dangerous possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
It’s still not clear if the gun was taken inside the pool area. The 16-year-old victim is in hospital for treatment and he is in stable condition according to the latest hospital reports.
