Muncie, Indiana – After allegedly hitting two members of her family, including her mother and an 11-year-old girl, a Muncie woman has been charged.
According to court records, on June 17, 19-year-old Ashley Marie Barnes was accused of violence and strangulation. Just after 8 o’clock in the evening, Muncie Police were called to a residence off West 32nd Street in relation to a domestic battery incident.
An 11-year-old girl, according to the police, and other witnesses, claimed that Barnes had “slapped her in the face, punched her body, and put both hands around her neck.” In the probable cause document, investigators noted the girl had marks on her neck and face.
For medical attention, the girl was brought to a nearby hospital.
Barnes’ mother reportedly told authorities that she was pushed, struck in the back of the head, and had her hair pulled when she attempted to separate Barnes and the 11-year-old.
According to court records, authorities photographed the mother’s wounds to record their injuries. They continued, saying she had “scrapes on her legs and her fingers were bleeding.”
Barnes allegedly hit a different family member in the face while he attempted to break up her violent altercation, but the family member indicated he didn’t want charges to be brought against Barnes.
The probable cause also stated that there were other kids there in the house at the time of the altercation with Barnes in addition to the 11-year-old girl. A 12-year-old girl and four boys, ages 17, 10, and 7, were among them.
Barnes is accused of strangulation, a Level 6 Felony, battery, a Class B Misdemeanor, and battery resulting in physical injury to a person under the age of 14.
The first hearing for her is set for July 12 at 1:30.
