Kokomo, Indiana – Kidnapping attempt of a toddler ended up unsuccessful in Kokomo on Friday, authorities confirm.
According to the incident report, deputies were dispatched to Walmart, located in the 1900 block of E. Markland Avenue following a 911 call in regards to an attempted kidnapping before noon on Friday.
The mother of the 1-year-old toddler explained to the officer that while she was pushing the cart and shopping, unknown woman approached her baby. She said that the female appeared to purposely bump into her. The female then unbuckled the child and a struggle ensued.
Luckily, the mother was able to retake her child from the woman who immediately fled the scene and exited the store. The Walmart employees helped the woman who was in shock and later help the officers with the description of the woman.
Shortly after the arrival of the officer, one of the Walmart workers informed the police that the suspect is in a vehicle that was parked on the parking lot in front of the store accompanied by another person. Officers immediately responded and arrested both people.
According to them, the woman who attempted the kidnapping was identified as the 36-year-old Chrystalyn Myers who was arrested and faces multiple charges including attempted kidnapping, possession of cocaine, false informing and possession of marijuana.
The male suspect who was in the car with the main suspect was identified as the 53-year-old Gregory Culbertson who was also arrested and charged with multiple charges including invasion of privacy, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Police didn’t reveal more details following the initial investigation. More details are expected during the upcoming days.
