Evansville, IN — A 47-year-old man has been arrested on multiple charges, including several felonies, after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase in rural Daviess County. Kenneth Evinger of Indiana was initially stopped by a state trooper for driving nearly 20 mph over the speed limit. However, the situation quickly escalated when Evinger refused to exit his vehicle and sped off, prompting a pursuit.
According to Indiana State Police, Evinger reached speeds close to 100 mph while navigating through rural country roads. The chase came to a dramatic halt when Evinger lost a tire and crashed into a ditch. Despite the crash, he fled on foot, prompting a large-scale search operation.
Deputies from Daviess, Dubois, and Pike counties, along with K-9 units and drones, assisted in the search for Evinger, who was eventually located in the woods nearby.
The trooper who initiated the traffic stop had reportedly observed “indicators of criminal activity” during their initial interaction with Evinger. Following his arrest, authorities obtained a search warrant for his residence. Inside, they discovered approximately 9 grams of suspected methamphetamine, over 6 pounds of suspected marijuana, and several other drug-related items.
Evinger now faces a series of charges, including seven felonies and four misdemeanors. Among the charges are dealing methamphetamine and marijuana, possession of controlled substances, resisting law enforcement, and leaving the scene of a crash. He was booked into the Daviess County Jail and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
The case remains under investigation as law enforcement continues to assess the full extent of the drugs and evidence found at Evinger’s home.
