Boonville, IN – A large fire broke out this morning at a home in Boonville, causing extensive damage and requiring assistance from multiple neighboring fire departments. The fire, which was reported at 11:24 a.m., occurred at a residence on the 1300 block of N 1st Street. According to officials with the Boonville Fire Department (BFD), the flames and smoke were visible from over a mile away.
Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. The homeowner, who was not present, said he had been living at the house part-time. He also confirmed that the property contained a large collection of guns and ammunition, which caused small explosions as the fire progressed. No injuries were reported, and the homeowner’s dogs, who were also not at the residence, were unharmed.
Firefighters from several surrounding departments, including Chandler, Yankee, Lynnville, and Ohio Township Fire, were called in to assist with battling the blaze. In addition, Warrick County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and EMS personnel were on the scene.
The house, a one-and-a-half-story structure, has been deemed a total loss. Captain Josh Russelburg of the BFD commented that, due to the heavy fire and compromised roof structure, the fire was able to spread quickly, making it difficult for crews to control it before significant damage occurred. “Without actually being able to get all the way in, I would say it’s going to be a total loss,” Russelburg said.
Authorities are continuing to assess the scene, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Despite the devastation, officials are relieved that no one was injured in the incident.
