Cicero, Indiana – This month, a new trail connecting a Hamilton County hamlet to park amenities will open.
According to a press statement from county government spokesman Tammy Sander, the multipurpose asphalt route travels east from Katherine Street in the town of Cicero to the White River Campground and the close-by Strawtown Koteewi Park. The trail is around 3 miles long and 10 feet wide.
The park offers a fishing lake, an archaeology center, aerial paths, an archery range, a biking trail, an equestrian center, and, in the winter, snow tubing. It also contains a recreated Native American town. According to research, this property was primarily occupied between 1200 and 1400.
The Honorable Steven R. Nation Community Pathway will be officially unveiled on May 9 at 10:30 a.m. at White River Campground by local and state dignitaries. It is situated at 11299 E. 234th St., which is east of Cicero.
Former judge and county prosecutor Nation is a Republican serving on the county council. He also started the at-risk students’ youth assistance program in Hamilton County.
Future plans call for the route to be expanded south to the covered bridge at Potter’s Bridge Park on the White River in Noblesville and north to the town of Atlanta on the county’s northern border. According to a press release, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources has allocated $1.04 million for the project.
The town of Cicero, which has a population of about 5,400, is located roughly 45 minutes north of Indianapolis.
