EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A father was found guilty of murder and neglect in the tragic death of his 6-month-old baby, Kaysen Hedrick. The verdict was handed down Thursday, concluding the trial that began earlier this week.
Shane Hedrick, the father of the infant, was charged after authorities responded to an emergency call at his home in January 2024. Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find Kaysen unresponsive. Despite efforts to perform life-saving measures, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Over the course of the trial, the prosecution argued that Hedrick was responsible for the child’s death, citing both evidence and testimony. On the third day of the trial, the prosecution rested its case. The defense presented their arguments the following morning, but the jury ultimately sided with the prosecution.
Hedrick was found guilty on all counts, facing charges of both murder and neglect related to his baby’s death. The court proceedings, which were closely followed by local media, included emotional testimony from witnesses and experts, underscoring the severity of the situation.
The sentencing for Shane Hedrick has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on February 21, 2025. As the case comes to a close, many in the community continue to mourn the loss of young Kaysen and await the final outcome of the legal proceedings.
