Whiteland, Indiana – Communities are still cleaning up after a series of tornadoes across the state caused havoc and devastation to so many people just over a week later. In Whiteland, Indiana, one of the villages was particularly heavily impacted.
The Whiteland community decided to raise money and gather items during the Easter weekend because so many families were affected by the tornadoes last week.
This long weekend is meant to unite and encourage people, and all around Whiteland, that is exactly what is occurring.
Large Easter egg hunt held on Saturday by Whit’s Inn and Tracy Plaza merchants! Over 800 children attended the Easter Bunny visit and an enjoyable day of games and activities! But in spite of all the Easter festivities, the major goal was to collect funds and food for all of the families who had been most negatively affected by the tornadoes.
“It just means the world to be able to bring people together like this,” Mark Clark, the owner of the Whit’s Inn, said. “We had food donations, hundreds of people brought easter eggs, and we had over 8000 eggs stuffed with candy… It’s been, you know, as the old saying goes, ‘it takes a village.’”
In addition to the tremendous gifts made by the community over the weekend, state agencies are also pitching in a lot!
State agencies are offering aid to anyone directly harmed by the tornadoes as part of a one-stop shop. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Indiana Department of Insurance, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the Family and Social Services Administration, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, the Indiana Department of Health, and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security are among those mentioned.
Through April 14, the one-stop shop will be located at the Clark Pleasant Administration building. The times are 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
