EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A 36-year-old Evansville woman, identified as Randi Delaney, is facing charges of auto theft after a brand-new Subaru Outback was reported stolen from a local car dealership earlier this month.
According to the Evansville Police Department, officers responded to the dealership on January 3 after a 2023 Subaru Outback, valued at approximately $35,000 and with fewer than 200 miles on it, was discovered missing from the lot.
Surveillance footage from the dealership showed the vehicle being taken from the lot that same day. On January 9, the stolen SUV was located on East Virginia Street. Police say they discovered the vehicle parked at a home, where four individuals, including Delaney, were found inside the residence.
All four individuals were taken to the police station for questioning. Authorities reviewed additional surveillance footage from the neighborhood, which appeared to show Delaney driving the stolen Subaru to the location where it was later found. When questioned, Delaney reportedly told officers that she had received the vehicle from someone on the east side of Evansville. However, GPS records from the vehicle indicated that it had never been in the area she described.
As the investigation continues, Delaney remains under scrutiny for her involvement in the theft. Police are continuing to gather evidence and assess the role of the other individuals involved in the case.
Delaney’s arrest highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address auto theft and hold individuals accountable for such crimes in the region.
