EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A 27-year-old Evansville woman, Taylor Tapley, was arrested on multiple counts of child neglect after police discovered her intoxicated and unresponsive in her home, leaving her children in a potentially dangerous situation.
According to authorities, Tapley’s family had arranged for a relative to pick up one of her children. However, when the relative attempted to make contact with the family, they were unable to reach Tapley and were informed by her children that they couldn’t wake their mother. The children reportedly told the family member through an open window that Tapley was unresponsive inside the house.
When the relative contacted law enforcement, officers arrived at the residence and were able to enter after one of the children let them inside. Police found Tapley stumbling out of the home, and she allegedly told officers that her children had not attempted to wake her.
Upon further investigation, authorities observed that Tapley exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol. She was asked to take a breathalyzer test, which revealed her blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.19, well above the legal limit.
