Evansville, IN — A woman was arrested late Wednesday night after being involved in two separate crashes, one of which was a hit-and-run. Samantha Gardner, 34, is now facing multiple charges, including DUI and leaving the scene of a crash.
According to the Evansville Police Department (EPD), officers responded to a hit-and-run report around 11 p.m. on State Road 66. The victim told authorities that another vehicle had struck their car after attempting to pass at a high rate of speed. Following the collision, the suspect reportedly told the victim to “be okay with what happened” before leaving the scene.
EPD officers later located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car. The vehicle was observed crashing into a parked car shortly thereafter. Authorities identified Gardner as the driver behind the wheel.
When officers approached the vehicle, they instructed Gardner to exit, but she allegedly responded by telling them to open the door for her. Officers also noted that her speech was slurred. Upon searching her vehicle, they discovered a pipe and marijuana.
Gardner was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation due to the multiple crashes. However, police say she refused to take a chemical test and reportedly made the comment, “I get away with everything.” After being cleared by medical staff, she was transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Gardner is currently facing charges including driving under the influence (DUI), leaving the scene of a crash, and several other related offenses. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to gather additional details.
