EVANSVILLE, IN — A dog was struck by a vehicle Saturday night after being abandoned by its owner in a hotel parking lot. According to local police, officers responded to a complaint about several animals running loose in the 100 block of South Green River Road. Upon arrival, authorities discovered three dogs and a cat wandering the area.
While two of the dogs were quickly located, one had suffered injuries after being hit by a car. The dog was immediately attended to by animal control officers, but its condition remains unclear.
Reports indicate that the animals had been left behind by a former tenant of the hotel, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. Officers have not yet released additional details about the case, but they are continuing their search for answers.
The other two dogs and the cat were safely secured, with authorities ensuring they are being cared for and monitored. The incident has drawn concern from local animal welfare advocates, who are urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the ongoing investigation.
At this time, officials are working to identify the person responsible for abandoning the animals and are exploring potential charges.
