Indianapolis, Indiana – The Marion County Clerk’s Office hosted its first Paws and Promises event at the Lugar Plaza on Tuesday morning, when many newlyweds and long-married couples had a canine-gone good time.
Through Paws and Promises, those getting married or couples renewing their vows might bring their pets to share in the joy of the occasion.
One woman who attended the ceremony with her husband and dog Sam says she would advise anyone who was thinking about it to have this kind of ceremony.
“It was a great experience, everybody treated us so well. They took pictures, they took care of Sam for us during the ceremony. It was just great. I would recommend anybody who is wanting to do something like this to come down here and do that if they’re thinking about it because it was great,” she said.
The Friends of Indy Animals Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to defending the city’s most defenseless animals, also benefited financially from the event.
At the occasion, the clerk’s office married a total of 22 couples and donated $1,000 to the foundation.
