Cicero, Indiana – This month, America’s Best Restaurants will pay a visit to the Cicero eatery Bien Mexicana.
The ABR Roadshow will visit the restaurant on May 11 and is being brought by ABR, a national media and marketing business that focuses on the neighborhood, independently-owned eateries. Along with a thorough on-camera interview with owner Angela Garcia on the restaurant’s unique place in the community, popular dishes will be showcased. At a later time, the program will receive substantial social media airtime.
When Garcia was unemployed during the pandemic and posted on social media to see if her neighbors would buy the Mexican food she loved to make, the name Bien Mexicana—which means “good woman born in Mexico”—came to be. She started her brick-and-mortar shop earlier this year after seeing long lines of people waiting to buy her homemade meals on her street.
The restaurant’s decor honors Garcia’s Hispanic heritage by featuring a mural and a painting of La Catrina, an exquisite skeletal woman typically portrayed on the Day of the Dead. Garcia is represented by La Catrina at the restaurant in this instance.
“When I look at myself as a Catrina, I feel inspired,” Garcia told the Hamilton County Reporter in April 2023. “I knew I wanted a Catrina painting, and I thought, why not make the Catrina me? After all I am Bien Mexicana.”
Birria, a popular dish that might be mentioned in the episode, is a meat stew that is prepared in and served with its braising broth. Garcia uses the flavorful meat to make tacos, quesadillas, and tortas, eating 75 to 100 pounds of it every day.
On Thursday, May 11, ABR will film on location from 2 to 5 p.m. The finished episode debut date for Bien Mexicana will be shared on the ABR Facebook page and highlighted on AmericasBestRestaurants.com.
