Indianapolis, Indiana – The Boston Marathon draws thousands of competitors. Some people have trained all of their lives, while others do it to assist others.
The Shinneman Family will participate in the race on April 17 with the intention of aiding others.
When Jamie and Amy Shinneman finished the Monumental Marathon in November, they earned a spot in the Massachusetts marathon. Because Amy has muscular dystrophy, the Shinnemans differ from other racers in that the couple rides a tandem bike. It allows Amy to accompany Jamie on his runs.
“I’ve watched Jamie run the Boston Marathon twice as a spectator, so I’m really excited to actually be a part of the Boston Marathon,” Amy said. “It’s a dream come true.”
They have finished three events together since getting the dual bike in 2015, including the Chicago and New York Marathons.
“Yea, I’m pretty nervous,” explained Jamie of his upcoming race. “Even though I’ve done it before, she’s not. So, I’m excited to run her down the streets of Boston at one of the most iconic marathons in the world. I’m excited for her to see all of that.”
Throughout the run, the couple will collect donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
They intend to compete in the Tokyo, London, and Berlin marathons in the future.
