Indianapolis, Indiana – At 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Indiana Chapter of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association will hold a rally on the steps of Columbus City Hall.
The group promises to speak out and denounce the assault on the 18-year-old Carmel, Indiana, Asian-American student.
According to the police, someone repeatedly struck the student in the head as she attempted to exit a bus. She also received head stab wounds.
Police in Bloomington have accused Billie Davis, 56, of trying to kill someone. According to police, the assault had racial undertones.
Asians have recently become the victims of hate crimes. Leaders of the Indiana APAPA demand an end to these vicious attacks and community assistance in the battle against all forms of prejudice and hatred.
At the rally will be the mayor of Columbus, the city council, local NAACP members, clergy, and the Columbus Police Department.
Other events are happening separately from the rally. IU is hosting the virtual discussion on “Confronting Anti-Asian American Racism and Marginalization” at 2 p.m.
Advice on improving assistance for Asians and Asian Americans at IU and Bloomington will be provided during the webinar.
Although it is free to the general public, registration is necessary.
